What we hold about you,and what we do with it.
Written to be read rather than to be survived. If something here is unclear, that is a defect in the writing and we would like to hear about it.

What this policy covers
This policy describes what PairScore collects when you use the student portal, the institution portal or this website, why we process it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies to the PairScore admissions product and to To Be An M.D., the mentorship matching product.
Where an institution runs a mentorship cohort using To Be An M.D., that institution is responsible for the participants it enrolls and for the data it uploads about them. We process that data to run the service for them.
What we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, password hash, and the role your account holds.
- Profile content: the academic figures and written experience narratives you enter, the schools on your list, the notes and application statuses you attach to them, and your Growth Playground scenario history.
- Institution content: for cohorts, the participant records a coordinator uploads, including mentor capacity, role rules and any mutual requests.
- Usage information: log records of requests to the service, including timestamps, IP address and browser user agent, kept for security and debugging.
Why we process it
To provide the service you asked for. Your profile is processed to compute your PairScore for each school, your Position Tiers, your Thriving Score and your School Alignment Insights. A coordinator's participant pool is processed to execute Match Runs and produce the analytics attached to them.
To keep the service working and secure: authentication, rate limiting, error diagnosis, and abuse prevention. To communicate with you about your account and, where you have asked for them, product updates.
Automated interpretation of your writing
PairScore uses a large language model to interpret written experience narratives into structured alignment signals, and to generate School Alignment Insights and the AI Alignment read on mentorship pairings. To do that, the relevant text is sent to our model provider for processing and the result is returned to us and cached.
This matters enough to say plainly: the narratives you write are read by an automated system, and the explanations you see are generated by one. They are guidance, not a determination about you. PairScore is a decision-support tool. It does not predict, guarantee, or make admissions decisions.
How long we keep it
Account and profile data are kept for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete the associated profile content, school list and scenario history, and remove the cached model output derived from it.
Operational logs are retained on a short rolling window for security and debugging, and backups are retained on a rolling schedule, so deleted content may persist in a backup for a limited period before it is overwritten.
Your rights over your data
- Access: you can see the profile content held about you from inside your account at any time.
- Correction: you can edit any part of your profile. Saving a change re-runs the interpretation and refreshes your rankings.
- Export: you can request a copy of your account data in a machine-readable format.
- Deletion: you can request deletion of your account and its content. Where a cohort you participated in has already produced a completed Match Run, the institution that ran it may retain its own record of that run.
Age
PairScore is built for people applying to, or preparing to apply to, medical school, and accounts are intended for adults. We do not knowingly create accounts for children. If you believe a child has an account with us, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that materially affects how we handle your data, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify account holders by email before the change takes effect.
